The FBI confirmed that it is investigating a terrorist threat against a Tennessee couple who are suing the brother of former Vice President Joe Biden.
A white envelope containing blood-stained currency from a Middle Eastern country and a “torture ticket” showed up at the home of Michael and Natalie Frey in August, the couple recently told Knoxville News Sentinel. At the request of federal authorities, the outlet didn’t reveal the currency’s country of origin.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office confirmed with the outlet that the FBI is currently investigating the threat, but declined to comment any further.
The threat was sent to the Frey household just days after the couple went public with allegations of fraud and deception against Jim Biden, the brother of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.
The Freys and their business partner Dr. Mohannad Azzam filed a federal lawsuit against Biden and three other businessmen for allegedly stealing their model for struggling rural hospitals. According to the News Sentinel, Biden relied on his brother’s fame to convince the Freys to share their business model, which he then stole and began pitching to Turkish investors.
“They repeatedly assured (Frey) that investment capital originating from and flowing through foreign entities was not only certain, but was imminent,” the lawsuit states. “And Biden promised (Frey’s) Intensive Outpatient Model would play an integral role in health care policy at the highest levels of the United States government.”
The lawsuit claims it “was all a fraud” and describes Biden as a con artist. Michael Lewitt, a hedge fund manager who partnered with Biden in the scheme, has already settled in the lawsuit.
Biden has denied the allegations and said through a spokesperson that the lawsuit “presents a seriously misleading version of the events.”
“It is nothing more than a cynical attempt to manipulate the press by taking advantage of Jim Biden’s public profile as the brother of a presidential candidate,” said Biden’s spokesperson. “They are clearly trying to pressure Biden and his colleagues by introducing a story customized for the press during the 2020 presidential primary season. The only purpose of these statements is to throw press bombs at Jim Biden because of who he is.”
